Soybean meal consists of oligosaccharides which include raffinose and stachyose that cannot be digested by monogastric animals, due to not enough a selected endogenous alpha-galactosidase. Raffinose and stachyose may cause flatulence and diarrhoea which could raise the digesta passage fee, and decrease digestion and absorption of dietary nutrients.
